I'm a professional math teacher with 6 years of experience teaching 9th and 10th grade (Matric level) students, currently teaching in a school setting and now taking on students for focused one-on-one and small-group tutoring. Math struggles usually come down to one thing: gaps in the basics that never got fixed before new topics piled on top of them. My approach is to find exactly where a student's understanding breaks down not just re-teach the whole chapter and rebuild from there with clear step-by-step explanations rather than shortcuts to memorize and forget. What I focus on with every student: Concept before formula. Students who understand why a method works retain it far longer than students who just memorize steps for an exam. Practice with feedback. Regular problem sets and quick corrections so mistakes get caught and fixed immediately, not on the final exam. Patience with weak areas. No judgment for what a student doesn't know yet that's the whole point of tutoring. We work at the pace that actually builds confidence. Exam-focused prep. Familiarity with the Matric-level syllabus and the kind of questions that actually show up on board exams, so practice time is spent where it counts. I've helped several students raise their math grades significantly, including two students who went from D and C grades to A grades within 7 months. Seeing a student go from struggling to confident is what keeps me doing this. I teach both individually and in small groups, and I'm flexible on scheduling to work around school timing.
